One of my favorite throw-away lines from an episode of SG:1 was a casual observation that if the dark ages hadn't occurred, mankind would have been well on its way to colonizing the solar system by now (which was the late 90s - early 00s then). It's a nice nugget of heady optimism. I can't help but wonder if there'll be a similar throw-away line in a future sci-fi series that reflects the impact of Covid.

Yeah, that’s an oft-stated thing. I don’t know how much stock I’d put in it — or something like the destruction of the library at Alexandria — given that the lack of a destructive act doesn’t mean that another could occur.

I’m guessing COVID will be considered alongside the Great Depression, or even might be lumped in with it when you get far enough from it.
