The Lupe Garu is what comes to mind. It's like a werewolf, I think.
And, then, of course, New Orleans is saturated with its own ghost stories. My father told me of a personal encounter with a ghost at the family business located in a very old part of the city. (We owned a building directly across the street where stables used by Andrew Jackson once stood. So... we're talking old.) Many years later, a plague cemetery was uncovered when a neighboring building was torn down and its foundation ripped up. Creepy!
