I'm afraid the miniseries got overwritten by later episodes - the whole series took me about a month to (re) watch. The contrast between the miniseries and other portrayals of an apocalypse is a "big picture" observation that I'm unlikely to make at the best of times, anyway.
No doubt there's more and better TV now than ever before. I don't have access to everything but I can't think of a better space opera than Galactica in the years since (or before)
